Julien’s Hosts Auction Featuring Collectibles From Celebrity Estate
Items to be auctioned live in Beverly Hills and at Artfact.com

BOSTON, December 15, 2011— On Saturday 17 December 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time, Julien’s Auctions will host a sale of the property from the Holmby Hills Estate at 100 North Carolwood Drive. The auction will take place at 9665 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills, Calif. as well as live online at Artfact.com. In person and online bidding will begin at 10:00 a.m. PST. Previews of sale items are now available at Artfact.com.

Julien’s is the premier auction house in high-end celebrity estate and entertainment auctions. The December 17 sale features diverse and attractive objects that will make excellent contributions to an elegant household. To be auctioned is a great variety of fine art, antiques, quality modern furniture, ceramics, Oriental rugs, and other collectibles from the residence in Holmby Hills. One of the stars of the collection is a stunning carved and gilded baby grand piano by C. Gunther & Sohne, dating to the third quarter of the 19th century. Also of special interest is a Victorian Revival style armoire with fancy burl wood veneer. The beveled edged center mirror door bears an inscription in black felt tip pen by the celebrity. Another highlight is a 19th century mantel clock that features a seated classical female on a sarcophagus base, no doubt representing the Greek poet Sappho.

The selection of paintings is also exceptional. One auction item is an oil painting by Adelsteen Normann that depicts a fishing village in a mountain fjord. This is a sizeable and impressive classic Norwegian painting. Also noteworthy is an oval portrait of a man by Sir George Hayter, a favorite of British royalty. The portrait was painted the same year that the young Victoria became Queen. Hayter painted several images of royal ceremonies as well as the wedding of Victoria and Albert and the State portrait of the Queen. Not to be missed is a copy of Titian’s Venus Blinding Cupid and a copy of Caravaggio’s Cardsharps.
