Tiffany Studios Items Main Feature At Upcoming Doyle New York Auction
Settee, lamp and vases among fine and decorative art, furniture to be auctioned live in New York City and at Artfact.com
BOSTON, February 1, 2012 – On February 8th at 10:00 a.m. Eastern, Doyle New York will host Belle Époque: 19th & 20th Century Decorative Arts, an auction featuring 585 lots of fine and decorative art and furniture. The sale will take place at 175 East 87th Street in New York City, as well as live online at Artfact.com. The auction boasts a large collection of American and European artwork, beautiful antique furniture and decorative art pieces. Highlights of the auction include a number of items from the world famous Tiffany Studios. Lot 438 features a Tiffany Lamp made of bronze and translucent, amber-colored favrile glass and modeled after a cluster of ten drooping, thin-stemmed lillies. Lot 436’s Tiffany Favrile Glass Vase from 1908, while Lot 437 showcases a Tiffany Favrile Glass Calla Lily Paperweight vase from 1912. The Paperweight Vase, made from colorless glass and inlaid with green and brown leaves around three white blossoms, has an estimated price of $10,000-$15,000.
Belle Époque’s crown jewel is a Tiffany and Colman Carved and Parcel Gilt Ash Settee, originally designed for the Music Room in Louisine and Henry Havemeyer’s New York City mansion. This antique settee, featured on Lot 439, is crafted in Near Eastern style, with a double-arched crest decorated with peacocks, tendrils, leaves and various blossoms. This beautiful, one-of-a-kind item is estimated to sell for between $125,000 and $175,000.
A collection of paintings from around the world constitute 150 of the auction’s initial lots. American artwork includes paintings and sculptures, with works by Douglas Arthur Teed, Robert van Vorst Sewell, Andrew Melrose and a number of other American artists. Notable European works include “Autumn Shoreline” by Pierre de Clausade (Lot 108), Anton Karssen’s “Hesitant Friends” (Lot 110), and a selection of paintings by Spanish artist Juan Soler.
