Premier German Auction House Becomes Latest Live Auction Customer

BOSTON, March 20, 2012 — Artfact, the leading live auction software, tools and services provider, said today that Germany’s Lempertz auction house has chosen the Artfact Live online bidding and marketing platform to host live auctions. The first auction will be held on March 21, 2012 and will feature paintings from the 15th to the 19th century.

Lempertz’s history dates from the beginning of the 19th century. In 1802, Johann Matthias Heberle established the “Antiquarian Book Shop Including Auctions,” which held important auctions of rare books and art works. After the founder’s death in 1840, his employee, Heinrich Lempertz, took over the company and the newly-named “H. Lempertz” held its first auction in Bonn in 1844. Today Lempertz is the only German auction house to hold auctions abroad. It specializes in old masters, decorative arts, modern and contemporary art, tribal arts, photography and Asian art, as well as antiquarian books and prints. Lempertz is also the only German auction house to be part of the International Auctioneers (IA), a renowned group that unites eight independent auction houses from eight countries.
