Apple Tree Auction Center hosted one of the most unique auctions ever featured on Artfact. The sale consisted of 64 original, full size wax figures by Katherine Stubergh, including Jean Harlow, Albert Einstein, Walt Disney and Howard Hughes.
The figure of Charlie Chaplin sold for a hammer price of $25,000 and was bought by an Artfact.com online bidder. It is documented that Stubergh made a wax impression from the face of Chaplin, after which he sat live for the artist as she sculpted the finer details. The figure is the only one of Chaplin known to exist.

Closing at CHF8,000 ($8,446), this gilt bronze rendering of the four armed Bodhisattva sold to an online bidder for more than double the original estimate. Believed to be from 18th/19th century Beijing, the statue stands 16.5 cm. The face, with a serious yet inviting expression, is framed by sashes that swing from the crown. One set of hands is folded across the chest. The other set, raised to shoulder level, once held Mala and Padma.

The gruesome biblical tale of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist is keenly depicted in this relief carving. St. John was first imprisoned after he scolded King Herod for divorcing Phasaelis and unlawfully marrying Herodias. During a birthday celebration for Herod, Herodias’s daughter Salome danced before the king and his guests. Extremely pleased with Salome, Herod promised that she could have anything she desired. After consulting her mother, Salome asked the king for the head of St. John.
To the right, and in the background of the relief, is carved the Feast of Herod along with the prison door from which St. John was led. In the foreground stands Herodias, Salome, the executioner, the fallen body of St. John, and his severed head. Bought by an online bidder for well above the highest estimated price, the relief closed at €31,720 ($40,248).
