Copley and Keno Present Live Online Auctions January 17 & 18, 2011

Boston, MA – Lovers of American antiques no longer have to make the pilgrimage to New York City to experience the thrill and excitement of the city’s annual Americana Week. Artfact, the world’s premier global auction marketplace, brings the best of Americana Week’s auctions to bidders across the globe through the Artfact Live! online bidding platform. Of particular note are two important back-to-back auctions presented by Copley Fine Art Auctions and Keno Auctions, each featuring an impressive selection of Americana. Copley Fine Art Auctions begins the week’s activities with a spectacular two-part auction on January 17. Featured at Copley’s inaugural Winter Sale is a first-rate lineup of American antiques and fine art and a vast collection of sporting decoys. Highlighting session one is a painting by Arhtur Fitzwilliam Tait (1819-1905) titled “Guarding the Catch”. The painting, estimated $125,000-$175,000, is signed by the artist and depicts a black dog watching over an absent fisherman’s catch of the day. Copley Chairman and Fine Art specialist Stephen O’Brien, Jr. notes, “It is one of the most important American dog paintings that we have ever had the privilege to bring to market.”

Session two of Copley’s Winter Sale will feature two hundred and thirty decoy lots by renowned craftsmen such as A. Elmer Crowell, Lee Dudley, Albert Laing, Joseph Lincoln, and John Tax, in addition to thirty lots of assorted sporting books from the collection of H. Wendell Endicott. In addition to the rare decoys offered at this auction, Artfact Live! is one of the leading resources for collectors in the genre, regularly offering live online bidding for specialized decoy auctions.

Partnering with Copley to celebrate the start of Americana Week, Keno Auctions of New York is also offering a wide variety of American fine art and antiques at their January 18 sale. Headlining the sale is an 1880 painting by world-renowned artist Winslow Homer titled “Five Boys at the Shore”. The painting, originally purchased in 1880 by Colonel Henry and Elizabeth Perkins Lee, was passed down through four generations of the family prior to current consignment. Estimated $350,000-$450,000, the watercolor shows Homer at his best in portraying children and is being offered to the public for the first time in over a century.

In addition to these two exciting Americana Week auctions, Artfact Live! also offers live online auctions from premier auctioneers across the country and beyond. Artfact Live bidders benefit from an enhanced, easy-to-use bidding console; a comprehensive auction database; and a powerful search engine that allows bidders to search consignments by keyword, auction house, artist name and more.
