Maurice B. Prendergast (1858-1924)

Prendergast is known for his light hearted paintings of parks, beaches, and streets. He frequently used fashionably dressed people with pleasant dispositions as his subjects. After 1907, Prendergast began painting in oil with a heavier application process, focusing on two dimensional shapes. Sold to an Artfact online bidder, this color monotype by Prendergast is on thin, cream laid paper and measures 11.5 / 9 inches. It is initialed by the artist in the lower left corner.

John Childs
Realized Price: $19,200
This Child’s clock has descended the generations and was once used in the Wister family ancestral home, Grumblethorpe, in Germantown, Philadelphia. Built in 1744, Grublethorpe is considered a National Historical Landmark. The clock was auctioned from the estate of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Wister of Oldwick, New Jersey. Sold for almost 4 times what was expected, the Child’s mahogany clock vastly exceeded its estimated price of $3,000-5,000. Bought by an Artfact online bidder, the clock sits on brass paw feet and features cast brass ringed pulls along with the inscription Jno Child Phila.
Doyle New York- American Furniture and Decorative Arts, April 4th, 2012
Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait (1819-1905)
Realized Price: $7,680
Housed in a private collection since the 1940’s, this work by Tait generated a lot of interest at the recent Doyle New York auction. Sold to an Artfact online bidder, the painting greatly exceeded the estimated price of $4,000-6,000. Tait is most well known for painting realistic scenes with animals or sportsmen as subjects.
